Our user research team had conducted most of the user research when I joined the team. In order to get the insight into our target users, I collaborated with the research team to understand their user goals and their pain points.
An event app user
Current social event apps do not have user ratings and reviews for event hosts
Communication with other event participants is very inefficient
Know ratings and reviews from guests of a host’s past events
Easy to view, communicate and connect to other event participants
Create events of their own with customizable setting of multiple ticket prices
Sean loves attending different social events
He found he could not check rating about an event or view past events of a host on current event apps
He also found he could not chat with other participants after joining an event in group chat
With Jolly, checking ratings of current or past event of the host is very helpful for decision making
Sean can also interact with other participants in specific event group chat
Jolly makes his social life easier than ever!
Based on our interviewees' thoughts, we used three popular event apps and apps with event planning feature for a week as a new user. Here I summarized our user experience as this comparative analysis:
|Dedicated event planning|
Rating about past events
Users will view user ratings and reviews from past event participants
Users who registered an event can discuss with other participants in a group-chat channel
Customizable event options
Our app needs to allow users to create and customize their own events
The ratings and reviews for a host will be also displayed on profile page of the event host.
In order to give event participants opportunities to discuss with each other, the group chat feature is designed.
2 participants tested
Participants have some experience of using event apps before
Tested on Invision and Principle (Mac)
Find an event to join and check ratings about the event
Group-chat with other participants
Post an event of your own
Some participants mentioned that the parallel two buttons are easy to be mis-touched.
I only kept “join” button as the primary entry point to the next page.
In the original design of create event page, the grid layout was thought to be colorful but not practical as it brings trouble when setting up multiple levels of ticket prices
I used a more traditional but more straightforward design of create event flow with easy setup of multiple levels of ticket price
